Foods cooking tips

How cooking affects food temperature

Salads and raw foods in general are cold. They are a good choice if the weather is hot, if a person is always hot. They should be used with caution if the weather is cold, damp, wet, or a person has a poor digestion.

Boiling and steaming foods makes them neutral - not too hot, not too cold.  This method of cooking suits any climate and any person. They are especially good for ill, old, very young people. They are the most digestible form of cooking and if a person is ill, have small portions often.

Stewing and stir-frying warms the food. This kind of cooking suits a cool climate, or cool days.

Baked foods are slightly warmer than stewed or stir fried. This type of cooking with stewing and stir-frying will make the stomach warm. Good if you have poor digestion. Good for winter, cold days, cool, damp, wet days.

Deep fried, roasted, grilled and barbequed foods are hot. This type of cooking is best suited for cold weather. I know barbeques are very much in vogue in the summer; it is true the food is hot but it is usually eaten with salads, cold drinks, outside and in hot climates often people cool down in the water. If you are always sweating and really suffer from the heat, perhaps choose another cooking method.

Foods for sebum lumps under the skin

Cysts and lumps lodged under the skin

I know I have them and they are really annoying! First, let me tell you that changing your diet alone won't get rid of them, for that, you'll need to see your doctor or a qualified beautician.
If you have one lump, it's likely you may have more, bigger or smaller.

Adding specific foods to the diet  can help in stopping them happening or coming back. The list is quite comprehensive, there is quite a lot going on in the body which leads to the development of these lumps.

Let me add that seaweed is very important for this condition, just add a small handful, small in soups or everyday foods, it will help.

Here we go:
Vegetables: Bamboo shoot, button mushrooms, onions, plantain, pumpkin, radish, seaweed, squash, turnip, water chestnut, watercress, yam, field mushrooms, garlic

Seaweed: (very important and very effective!) kelp, irish moss, laver, nori, wakame

Fruit: Grapefruit, lemon, lime, lemon peel, mandarin, orange peel, papaya, pear, tangerine peel

Spices: Caraway, cardamom, fennel seed, ginger, basil

Nuts: Almonds, peanuts, walnut

Herbs: juniper, liquorice, mustard, black pepper, white pepper, rosemary, sage, thyme

Fish: Clam, shrimp, prawn

Teas: Elderflower, jasmine, peppermint, black tea, green tea, aniseed, eucalyptus, eyebright, juniper, liquorice, tea tree

Foods for weight and cellulitis

Foods to help with weight and cellulitis

Overweight comes from too much eating. Cellulitis comes from fat stored between the muscle layer and the skin.
You don't need to be overweight to have cellulitis, you can be overweight and have cellulitis.

There are conditions, however, that can make it more difficult to deal with both those issues.
These are:
  • Damp climates (hot or cold - cold however makes digestion slower)
  • Wet climates
  • Eating too many wrong foods (dairy, meats, cakes)
  • Having a poor digestion (stomach is not efficient)
  • Having a poor circulation and low metabolic rate
The list of foods below serves two purposes - one - to help the body eliminate the excess fat in which ever form it might be - two - to help the body digest more easily and expel more easily.

I recommend that you eat more of these foods and reduce the amount of the usual foods you eat. Mix the two types freely.

These food help to expel and disperse the fat or turn it into energy:

Grains: Barley, buckwheat, rye, wheat bran
Vegetables: Artichoke, asparagus, bamboo shoot, caper, carrots, celery, Chinese cabbage, dandelion, endive, lettuce, onions, parsnips, pumpkin, radish, scallion, squash, turnip, watercress, yam (very good), garlic, olives. oyster mushrooms
Fruit: Blueberries, cranberries, grapefruit peel, lemon peel (add to teas)
Spices: Cardamom, chilli, cinnamon, cayenne, fenugreek seeds
Herbs: Basil, juniper, black pepper, white pepper, rosemary, sage, tamarind
Beans: Aduki, blackeyed, broad beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, lentils, mung
Fish: Anchovy, crab, eel, mackerel, tuna
Teas: Dandelion, bitter orange flower, black cohosh, blackcurrant leaf, buchu, burdock root, cinnamon twig, devil's claw, honeysuckle, juniper, raspberry leaf, salsaparilla, st john's wort, tea tree

These food make digestion more efficient:

Foods for wrinkles and dry skin

Foods that moisten the blood

That's a weird concept! How can blood be moistened, it's already a liquid! True but not quite.
As well as having to be rich in nutrients, blood has to have the right amount of liquid, always according to TCM of course. Without it, the internal organs will be dry and they will affect the body.

How can that happen? Blood dryness can be caused by exposure to hot weather over time, too dry, spicy foods, too much alcohol or drugs, staying up late at night, too much work, always been on the run, some medicines, not drinking enough water.

Signs of "dry" blood:
  • Dry cracked skin
  • Dry eyes
  • Dry mouth
  • Thirst
  • Little urine
  • Sore tendons and crackling joints
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Dry hair, nails
  • Wrinkly skin

Here are foods that moisten the blood:

Grains: Buckwheat, millet couscous, wheat
Vegetables: Asparagus, mungbeans sprouts, potato, seaweed, squash, spinach, string bean, tomato, yam, black mushroom
Seaweed: Kelp, nori
Fruit: Apple, banana, mango, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, plum, pomegranate, raspberry, strawberry
Beans: Black bean, kidney, lima, mung, peas, soybean black, tofu
Seeds: Flax, sesame, pine kernel
Fish: Abalone, clam, crab, eel, mullet, octopus, oyster, sardine, scallop, whitebait
Meat: Beef, chicken liver, duck, goose, pork, rabbit
Dairy: Butter, cheese, eggs, duck egg, chee, milk, goat's milk, yogurt
Herbs: marjoram, nettle
Condiments: Sesame oil, honey, linseed, coconut milk, soya milk
Teas: Chrysanthemum, black cohosh, borage, American ginseng

Foods for hair and nails

Enrich your blood

It may sound strange to enrich one's blood - does it mean the blood amount inside the body is not enough? No
Does it mean the blood is too watery? No
Do I have an undiagnosed blood disease? No

In TCM terms blood has to be full of nutrients and have enough of them to supply all the organs in the body.

The quality of blood can be affected by overworking, over exercising, heavy menstruation, some medicines, poor diet, not enough rest.

The results of having blood which is considered "poor" in quality are:
  • Weak brittle hair
  • Weak brittle nails
  • Feeling tired
  • Dry skin
  • A nervous disposition
  • Poor sleep
There are a lot of dietary supplements available for these symptoms, here I am adding some beneficial foods.

Grains: Oats, rice, wheat
Vegetables: Artichoke, beetroot, kale, sweet potato, spinach, watercress
Fruit: Apricot, avocado, cherries, dates, figs, lychees (the best), mulberries
Beans: Aduki, black, kidney, soybeans
Seeds: Sesame
Fish: Carp, eel, mussels, octopus, oyster, salmon, shark, squid, tuna
Meat: Beef, chicken, duck, lamb, mutton, pork
Dairy: Cheese, eggs, milk, goat's milk, yogurt
Herbs: Nettle, parsley
Condiments and oils: Miso, molasses, coconut
Nuts: Hazel nut, peanut
